A congenital ear abnormality is a problem with the ear's development that occurs while the embryo is still in the uterus. The three basic portions of the ear are the outer, middle, and inner ear. A bulging or prominent ear and a small outer ear are the two most common ear defects (ear microtia). Ear moulds, reconstructive surgery to restore ear shape, hearing aids (and/or cochlear implants), and early speech examination and therapy are all options.
