RICs are a type of open-fit hearing aid in which a small plastic "micro" tube travels from the hearing aid's body (housed behind the ear) across the outer ear and into the ear canal. The ear canal is inserted with a little, soft tip, but it does not seal it. They may be easily worn behind the ear, much like regular BTEs. Hearing aids with a receiver in the canal offer a secure fit and simple operation. The RIC type of hearing aid is popular among first-time hearing aid users with mild to severe hearing loss.
