A hearing professional at your local audiology clinic will test your baby's hearing when he or she is around 4 weeks old. This is because the tests are more accurate when your baby is four weeks old. Your baby's ears may have had fluid or debris in them after delivery, which can take several weeks to discharge. During the test, the audiologist places little earphones in the child's ear canals and soft electrodes (small sensor stickers) behind the ears and on the forehead. Clicking sounds and tones are transmitted through the earbuds. The electrodes record the hearing nerve's and brain's responses to these noises. This is the real deal. It usually takes between 20 and 40 minutes to complete the session. It is vital for the testing to take place in a peaceful environment.
